Reform Congregation Near Chatham NJ

Congregation B’nai Jeshurun: A Reformed Temple Serving Chatham and the Surrounding Area

Congregation B’nai Jeshurun is a vibrant Reform Congregation where Jews-by-birth, Jews-by-choice, interfaith families, as well as traditional and non-traditional families, celebrate our Jewish faith and heritage. Located at 1025 South Orange Avenue on the border of Short Hills and Livingston, NJ, our membership includes residents from Morris, Essex, and Union Counties, from cities that include West Orange, South Orange, Livingston, Summit, Madison, Florham Park, Maplewood, Millburn, Short Hills, and other surrounding towns.

The heart of B’nai Jeshurun is our faith, our commitment to Tikkun Olam (Social Justice), tzedakah, and the study of Torah. Together as a community, we come together to welcome Shabbat, celebrate High Holy Days and Festivals, and share in Life Cycle events.

Visitors are often struck by the energy at B’nai Jeshurun. Our classrooms reverberate with the sound of children’s laughter, song and vivacious discussions.

The Sanctuary seats 1,000 worshippers on the main level and balcony. The smaller, Newman Chapel is to the left of the sanctuary and Steiner Hall is on its right. During the High Holy Days the combined space seats 2,700 people.

At the Rabbi Barry H. Greene Early Childhood Center we focus on each child, stimulating his or her natural sense of wonder to discover the joy of learning in a warm and supportive atmosphere. With an excellent child to teacher ratio, our welcoming and inclusive environment serves children ages 3 months through 6 years.

Our innovative and dynamic programming includes: TBJ's Together with Babies Program (4-13 months); Toddlertime and Shabbat Shalom Club (14-24 months); The Transition to Two’s; Playschool 2’s; Preschool 3’s; The 3+4's; Pre-K 4’s; and our fully accredited full-day Kindergarten. We offer daily early morning drop off and after school enrichment activities.

At Temple B’nai Jeshurun our goal is to create engaging and innovative learning experiences for our students and their families. All of our programming is guided by our school's vision to create an educational center that encourages our community to flourish and thrive.

Through a sacred collaboration between clergy, staff, teachers, parents and students we are proud to offer an exciting religious school program:

Our Religious School meets one day a week. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 attend on Sunday mornings and students in Grades 3 to 6 sign up for either Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday sessions. Each Grade focuses on a different central theme for the year and also explores Jewish holidays and T'filah (prayer) together.

We strive to create a close community and encourage open communication between faculty, staff and families.

Our clergy and staff are deeply committed to serving the needs of each of our members. Together with our President and our Board of Trustees, we strive to ensure that at B’nai Jeshurun you will find a home away from home and a caring extended family, which is the essence of Jewish communal life.
