Congregation B’nai Jeshurun: A Reformed Temple Serving Summit and the Surrounding Area

A WELCOMING REFORMED CONGREGATION

Congregation B’nai Jeshurun is a vibrant Reform Congregation where Jews-by-birth, Jews-by-choice, interfaith families, as well as traditional and non-traditional families, celebrate our Jewish faith and heritage. Located at 1025 South Orange Avenue on the border of Short Hills and Livingston, NJ, our membership includes residents from Morris, Essex, and Union Counties, from cities that include Summit, Chatham, Madison, Florham park, Maplewood, Millburn, Roseland, Short Hills, South Orange, West Orange, and other surrounding towns.

The heart of B’nai Jeshurun is our faith, our commitment to Tikkun Olam (Social Justice), tzedakah, and the study of Torah. Together as a community, we come together to welcome Shabbat, celebrate High Holy Days and Festivals, and share in Life Cycle events.

Visitors are often struck by the energy at B’nai Jeshurun. Our classrooms reverberate with the sound of children’s laughter, song and vivacious discussions.

The Sanctuary seats 1,000 worshippers on the main level and balcony. The smaller, Newman Chapel is to the left of the sanctuary and Steiner Hall is on its right. During the High Holy Days the combined space seats 2,700 people.

RELIGIOUS SCHOOL

Jewish education is a journey of joyous discovery of the sacred knowledge and wisdom of Torah and our tradition. At its best, it enriches our lives and strengthens our community from generation to generation. We invite you to embark on this wondrous journey with us.

At Temple B’nai Jeshurun our goal is to create engaging learning experiences for our students and their families. All of our programming is guided by our school's vision to create an educational center that encourages our community to flourish and thrive.

For kindergarten through 12th grade students we offer innovative programming for the students to explore and discover their personal connections to Jewish life and deepen their connection to our community. Through a sacred collaboration between clergy, staff, teachers, parents and students we are proud to offer an exciting religious school program: Our Religious School meets one day a week. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 attend on Sunday mornings and students in Grades 3 to 6 sign up for either Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday sessions. Each Grade focuses on a different central theme for the year and also explores Jewish holidays and T'filah (prayer) together. We strive to create a close community and encourage open communication between faculty, staff and families.
